Taneka Caldeira is a trained Graduate Head of Allied Arts Department at West Demerara Secondary School. She started in the Theatre industry in 2008 when there was training for drama personnel through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport where she studied acting and directing. She went on to attend the National School of Theatre Arts and Drama in 2013 and graduated as the valedictorian.
She is currently teaching Theatre Arts at the secondary level for CSEC. Ms. Caldeira has ever since been committed to the arts through her writing and performances. Some scripts written thus far are: Life in the Country, The Lost Hope, Blind Trust, The Great Triumph, Broken but Not Defeated, A Twist of Faith all of which are award winning performances at the National Drama Festival. Ms. Taneka Caldeira performed in many plays especially with the National Drama Company of which she is a member. Some of her performances include performances at Carifesta Guyana, Suriname, Barbados and Trinidad. Other performances are Journey to Freedom, Queh Queh The Lion and The Jewel, Musings of A Poet, Ti Jean and His Brothers, Stick Fighting just to name a few.
In addition to her creative endeavours, Caldeira has played a pivotal role in nurturing emerging talent within the theatre community. As an educator and mentor, she has generously shared her knowledge and expertise with aspiring artists, guiding them in honouring their craft and finding their unique voices. Through workshops and mentoring programmes sponsored by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Ms. Taneka Caldeira has provided invaluable support to countless individuals, empowering them to pursue their artistic ambitions and contribute meaningfully to the cultural landscape. As a playwright, director, actor, educator and advocate, she has made a lasting impact on culture, reshaping the way we perceive and engage with live performance.
